Why are fats essential?

Some fats in food, such as saturated fats, should be strictly limited as they carry health risks. Others, such as the polyunsaturated fatty acids Omega 3 and Omega 6, are essential for good health. These important nutrients affect the health of the skin and hair, support the cardiovascular system, affect hormonal balance, and some of them are involved in the development of the baby's brain and nervous system and allow brain cells to function and communicate. The World Health Organization recommends a minimum intake of Omega 3 fatty acids of 0.5 to 2% of daily energy intake.

Sources of essential fats
Foods of plant origin, such as seeds and nuts, provide us with sources of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids - Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) and Linoleic acid (LA). These fatty acids cannot be produced by the body and must be obtained through food. The body then converts them into the essential fatty acids (‘super fats’): gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Fish oil contains EPA and DHA, which fish produce from the algae they eat. However, fish oil is not environmentally friendly enough, and the seas are constantly being polluted.

Echium Oil – a non-GMO vegetable oil extracted from the seeds of the Echium plant. This oil is a rich source of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. Plus, it is converted by the body to meet its nutritional needs more easily than flaxseed oil, for example.

Sea Buckthorn Oil – extracted from the leaves, fruits and seeds of the sea buckthorn plant (Hippophae rhamnoides). Sea buckthorn oil provides Omega-7 fatty acids, which help maintain the normal condition of the skin and the delicate mucous membranes of the respiratory, digestive and genitourinary systems.

Schizochytrium sp. - a type of marine microalgae with the natural ability to produce extremely DHA-rich Omega-3 fatty acids.

Vitamin D3 - a unique 100% plant-based form of vitamin D3 from algae. They are cultivated in Europe with full responsibility for the state of the local environment. Algae have been cultivated for food for decades.
